Silence seems to be the best answer to the motive behind the brutal
‘game ya zikwanje’ motorcade parade, proudly brought us by none other
than the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). The parade just
championed fears long inhabited by rebranding the youthful DPP
loyalists into cadets. Possibly that’s the best trademark in as far as
party parameters are concerned but certainly a great betrayal to this
democracy of ours. It fuels fears that the country is on a
superhighway to dictatorship. The parade mounted to total abuse of the
youth. Is that the way mother Malawi wants to empower young people in
as far as participation in politics is concerned? The DPP is obviously
losing direction because the machete parade only confirms how capable
the party is to groom young people into dirty politicians, specially
trained and approved to be viciously intolerant to those holding
parallel views. Where has the highly touted discipline in the DPP
vanished to? Come on, that Malawi is experiencing forex malnutrition,
fuel drought, rule of law/human rights kwashiorkor among other
national ailments is no news; it is just plain reality and pretending
to deny the prevailing state of affairs on the domestic political
scene is a ridiculous suicide of the truth. The truth cannot be
suffocated, it cannot be buried, it cannot even be overlooked…the
truth calls the shot, it still stands. No wonder DPP’s Ntaba and Vuwa
are playing hide and seek to tell the nation the theme of the machete
parade. Hundreds of thousands of brave Malawians who took to the
streets on July 20 are a substantial testimony that there is a great
need for change in the country.
What stands in this age is that those who snub change are the
architect of decay; after all, the only human habit which rejects
progress is the graveyard. Long live democracy!
